2014 Resolutions – The Year of Self Care

A few days into the new year, I spent some time writing a recap of my 2013 resolutions, a year in review, if you will. While I wasn’t 100% successful on all of my ventures, I still think I made awesome progress. I don’t see my new years resolutions as pie-in-the-sky dreams, but as smaller attainable goals to make myself better. I don’t want to set myself up for failure, because well, that sucks.

So, I’ve done some reflecting on what I want to get out of 2014 and I’m come to the following thoughts:

2013 was a blur. While I did a lot, I didn’t do anything that really truly stuck out to me as fantastic. I wasn’t living my best life. 2012 was a HUGE year for me, and when I look back on it, 2013 felt I was still playing catch up from my wonderful steps – new house, new job, great vacations, new dog, the list goes on – and I am so lucky for that. But I couldn’t say the same about 2013.

They say how you spend your time is how you spend your life – so in 2014, I’m going to rock some major self care. Here’s where I’m going with my resolutions:

Travel: This blog has an entire section dedicated to travel, to give you an idea of how much I used to do it and how important it is to me. When I lived aboard – my life was spent buried travel books and online travel booking services. Because of that – I’ve been all over Europe and Asia and have LOVED every minute of it. In 2013 I hit Mexico, Minneapolis and Boston – it was all amazing, but a wedding weekend and a work trip aren’t the most ambitious travel plans. Of course I hit my former-home of Chicago a few times, which being as close as it is, should happen way more often. Here’s what I’m trying to do:

– Make more trips to Chicago

– Make more trips to NYC

– Take one domestic trip to a place I’ve never been to

– Take one international trip to someplace I’ve never been to (!)

Pay off a student loan: Getting WAY real with you guys – I have a ton of student debt. I went to an expensive private school (that I loved) and financed my education on my own. I’m doing alright paying down my debt, but I’m sick of being saddled with it…as anyone can imagine. So, I have one baby loan that’s just hanging around getting paid down with my larger payment, but this year I’m going to knock that sucker out. Every bit helps and I’m going to work on OWNING this part of my life – instead of just auto-debiting my payment and looking the other way.

Cooking For The People I Love: JPC and I have been working our butts off getting the kitchen/dining room/floors completed. This means we can finally host guests properly in our house, which I haven’t done since I moved to Cleveland just over 3 years ago. I know the best way to bond with friends and create closer relationships is to invite people into your home. I plan to do this often, using my time at home to host small soirées. First up? I’m hosting my wine club – nearly 20 women will be the test of it! Wish me luck 😉

Get a Rockin’ Booty:  I saw this picture of Lea Michele and I saw my future. I knew it was time to get serious. I will be on my next domestic or international beach trip rocking a half thong/Brazilian bikini. I will work out, do my squats, and eat healthy. I mean, my US Weekly tells me Kim K. does 100 squats a day – I can do that. Because while a rocking’ booty isn’t the end all be all – it also represents being curvy, healthy, happy and beautiful. I should treat my body better, I’m a better person to others when I do.

What’s on your plate for 2014??
